There are phases in life that feel unusually heavy, almost as if everything that could go wrong is unfolding all at once, leaving us confused, emotionally drained, and questioning whether we are moving forward or quietly falling apart. In Hindu spirituality, such moments are not always seen as misfortune; they are often understood as periods of deep transformation, where the divine is not punishing us, but preparing us. Among all deities, Lord Shiva- revered as Mahadev, the supreme force of destruction and renewal- is believed to test his devotees not to break them, but to purify them before granting something far greater than they can currently imagine.
Unlike gentle blessings that arrive softly, Shiva’s influence often comes through intensity, through disruption, through experiences that shake us at our core. But this is not without purpose. Just as he consumed poison as Neelkanth to protect the universe, Shiva represents the ability to endure, transform, and emerge stronger. His tests are designed in a similar way- they push us beyond comfort so that we can grow into the strength required to receive what is meant for us.
