5 Science-Backed Habits to Boost Mental Health & Longevity

Today’s scientific studies are proving consistently that the mind and body are deeply interconnected. When the mind becomes too dull or depressed, the body will also respond negatively. Our immune system can become weaker and our overall health and longevity can also be badly affected. Therefore, it is extremely important that we take care of our mental health very seriously. In this article, we will explore 5 habits that can ensure our long-term mental wellbeing.

1. Meditation

Meditation

This simple habit in itself can work wonders for your inner world. All we have to do is sit quietly for some time and focus our mind on a single thing. You can focus on your breath coming in and going out. Negative thoughts will arise. When that happens, don’t react. Realise the truth that the mind has wandered and bring it back to the breath again. Meditate daily and you will experience a significant improvement in your mental health.

2. Movement

Brisk Walking

Physical stagnation will naturally result in the stagnation of the mind. Hence, do some kind of exercise everyday. If you go to gym, you can build some muscles and improve your physical beauty and confidence, along with boosting your mental wellbeing. Otherwise, if you are too busy, you can decide to walk to your office. Engage in brisk walking. This movement will make sure that the blood flows throughout your body, thereby activating your mind.

3. Adopt a Mindfulness Technique

Yoga

Mindfulness techniques such as yoga, tai chi, breathing exercises are considered as moving meditations. These methods will deepen the connection between your mind and body, thereby ensuring internal harmony.

4. Good Social Life

Make sure that you spend some quality time with your friends or family members. Aristotle wrote that human beings are social animals. When we go out there and talk about some random stuff and laugh for an hour or two, all kinds of stress will evaporate from our souls.

5. Prioritise Sleep

Human beings spend one-third of their lives sleeping. It is the time period in which our brain resets, process emotions and rejuvenate itself. Maintain a consistent a sleep schedule and ensure that you get at least 6-7 hours of sleep everyday.
