5 Ravens free agents who could follow Mike Macdonald to Seattle

The Seahawks may not have much cash to work with in free agency this year. However, we should expect some major roster cuts to come over the next few weeks as John Schneider attempts to get the books in order and free up cap space for 2024. For now their effective cap space is around $9.5 million over the limit, so expect some big changes.

Once the dust settles, there’s a good chance that Seattle will have enough cap room to make at least a couple mid-level signings when free agency begins or maybe one splash. If they do, odds are new head coach Mike Macdonald will want to bring in one or more of his former Ravens defenders. Here are five that are about to hit the market.

iDL Justin Madubuike

Seattle’s top free agent priority should be re-signing Leonard Williams. Once that’s done they should continue building the interior rotation around him. There’s no better option on the market this year than Madubuike, who’s become one of the NFL’s most-disruptive pass rushers from the inside. PFF has him credited with 14 sacks, 17 QB hits and 33 hurries in 2023. Maduibuike wouldn’t come cheap, though. Spotrac is estimating his market value to be over $20 million a season.

EDGE Jadeveon Clowney

A more realistic option that would also boost the pass rush rotation would be re-signing Jadeveon Clowney. While he’s going to turn 31 soon, Clowney proved this year that with the right coaching that he can still be an extremely effective defender. Working under Macdonald he posted a career-high 10 sacks, plus 51 hurries. Spotrac has his market value at just $7.2 million per year.

EDGE Kyle Van Noy

Most likely the Seahawks will have to go bargain hunting, which makes Van Noy an intriguing target. This season he totaled nine sacks and 48 total pressure and he did all that with Baltimore paying him just $1.4 million for the year. A similar deal for Seattle would make him a great value signing.

LB Patrick Queen

Mcdonald might make a major change in the middle of Seattle’s defense this offseason. Re-signing Jordyn Brooks is going to be an expensive proposition anyway – and as long as they’re spending money at linebacker they might as well go big. That means they might target Queen, who’s blossomed into an excellent defender since Roquan Smith’s arrival. Bobby Wagner’s influence should have a similar effect. Spotrac has his market value pegged at a painful $18.5 million a year, though.

S Geno Stone

Spending more money at safety should probably not be on the menu this year. However, with Quandre Diggs and Jamal Adams both potentially being cap casualties the Seahawks may need to sign another starter to pair with Julian Love. They could do far worse than Geno Stone, who finished second in the NFL with seven interceptions this year and wouldn’t break the bank to sign. Spotrac is projecting his market value at $7.2 million per season.
