Turn Off App Permissions That Have No Business Being On
Open Settings, go to Privacy or App Permissions, and scroll through what has access to the microphone, camera, and location. On most Android phones this is under Settings -> Privacy -> Permission Manager. On iPhones it sits under Settings -> Privacy & Security. A shopping app with microphone access, a flashlight app that wants location, these are not edge cases on an older device that has accumulated years of installs. Set each to "only while using" or deny it entirely. This single sweep removes a category of quiet background activity most parents do not know is happening.
