Netflix may have started the year with a mystery binge, but Prime Video is no slouch. As one of the best streaming services in the business, Amazon’s streamer is home to an impressive library of involving thrillers that’ll doubtless have you glued to the sofa.

If you’re in the market for some watchlist-worthy recommendations, I’ve highlighted five suspenseful shows below, spanning everything from compelling crime spinoffs to supernatural and sci-fi watches.

'Ballard'

I'm kicking the list off with a highly-rated detective series that follows a hero on the hunt for a ruthless killer and plunges her into a knotty web of murder and police conspiracy, one which threatens everything she stands for.

This is "Ballard," the latest chapter in Prime Video's "Bosch" saga. This new spinoff continues to bring Michael Connelly's bestselling novels to life, and sees Detective Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) heading up the LAPD's new, underfunded cold case division, trying to crack some of the city's long-forgotten crimes with the help of her team and ex-detective, Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver). It premiered in July 2025, debuted to rave reviews (it's still got a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes), and shot to the top of Prime Video's charts; if you're on the hunt for a twisting series, this just might be the watch for you.

'Lazarus'

Harlan Coben's name is synonymous with the mystery-thriller genre at this point, and while the prolific author is behind a ton of compelling Netflix releases — "Fool Me Once," "Missing You," and "Run Away," to name but a few — he's also worked on some projects for Amazon, too.

Case in point: "Lazarus," the mind-bending series from Coben and BAFTA-winner Danny Brocklehurst. After his father, Dr. Lazarus, dies by suicide, Joel (Sam Claflin) returns home, where he begins to have disturbing experiences that cannot be explained. Joel soon becomes entangled in a series of cold-case murders as he tries to grapple with the mystery of his father's death, plus his sister's murder from 25 years ago.

'Shelter'

Didn't I just say Harlan Coben was synonymous with a mystery series? Well, the author's also behind "Shelter," a well-liked YA-leaning Prime Video mystery thriller that drew comparisons with "Stranger Things."

Here, we follow Mickey Bolitar (Jaden Michael), who finds himself starting a new life in Kasselton, New Jersey, after the sudden death of his father. Mickey's quickly drawn into the mysterious disappearance of a new student at his school, Ashley Kent. With the help of his close friends, Mickey investigates his new home and, in doing so, reveals a dark underground that may hold the answers to decades of disappearances, deaths, legends, unimaginable secrets, and Mickey's own complicated family history.

'The Devil's Hour'

"The Devil's Hour" is a gripping thriller that introduces us to Lucy ("Call the Midwife" star Jessica Raine), a social worker whose life hasn't made sense for a while. She's struggling with family and relationship problems, and every night, she wakes up at 3:33 AM, haunted by terrifying visions. And when her name is inexplicably connected to a string of brutal murders in the local area, she may well be on the brink of getting some answers, with the aid of the enigmatic, foreboding figure of Gideon (Peter Capaldi).

It's a dark, horror-tinged watch, and one that just might get its hooks into anyone looking for a new mystery to get to the bottom of. It's run for two seasons, and was renewed for a third, so now might be a great time to get caught up.

'The Rig'

It's a more divisive recommendation than some of the other shows on this list, but I happen to think this intriguing Scottish sci-fi/supernatural thriller is worth investing in, hence its place on the list. As the title suggests, "The Rig" whisks viewers off the Scottish coast to the Kinloch Bravo oil rig, located within the dangerous waters of the North Sea.

There, we follow a group of workers as they become embroiled in a tense fight for survival when a strange fog cuts all communication off with shore. Paranoia soon creeps in as more strange things occur, and as tensions continue to mount, secrets threaten to come out, and relationships start to fray, those onboard are pushed to their limits as they try to get to the bottom of what's going on and how they might escape with their lives.
