4th Covid-19 wave unlikely, says IIT-K's Prof Manindra Agarwal

LUCKNOW: While it is important to remain cautious, the possibility of a fourth wave in the country remains low, believes Prof Manindra Agarwal of IIT Kanpur, whose mathematical model has been a reference point for understanding the pandemic activity and behaviour in the country over the past two years.

Talking to TOI on Sunday, he said: “The surge in Covid-19 cases is not building up the fourth wave, as of now.” On the reason for surge in the Covid-19 cases in several states, including Delhi which has also affected UP's national capital region districts of Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad, he said: “The present rise in cases appears to be the result of lifting of restrictions. It looks like a result of life returning to normalcy.”
