A new edition of Madden NFL 24 is set to drop, which means new ratings for players with their performances from last season included. Wide receivers were the first group of rankings to come out, and the 49ers only had one player in the top 20.
WR Deebo Samuel is rated 89 overall, tying him with Chargers WR Keenan Allen and Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett for the 13th-best overall rating at the position.
Ahead of Samuel are Mike Evans, CeeDee Lamb, Amari Cooper, AJ Brown, Terry McLaurin, DeAndre Hopkins, Ja’Marr Chase, Cooper Kupp, Stefon Diggs, Davante Adams, Tyreek Hill and Justin Jefferson. Jefferson received the highest possible mark with a 99 overall.
A better year in 2023 from Samuel should see him crack the 90 overall mark. Last year Samuel described himself as “awful,” and attributed his struggles to being out of shape because of a distraction caused by his offseason contract negotiation.
The 49ers would love to see Samuel come closer to the player he was in 2021 when he had more than 1,700 scrimmage yards and 14 touchdowns. Another year like that would surely get Samuel into the top 10 in next season’s Madden ratings.
