The 49ers on Tuesday announced a handful of moves on both the active roster and the practice squad.
Defensive lineman Akeem Spence was released from the active roster, which leaves San Francisco with three open roster spots. Tevin Coleman’s release and the Jeff Wilson Jr. trade opened the other two.
Spence’s release from the active roster is a good indication that DL Arik Armstead will be ready to go after the Bye. He’s not on IR though so his return won’t soak up one of the vacancies on the 53-man.
The other two moves came on the practice squad where WR Willie Snead IV was added and WR Malik Turner was let go.
Snead was released from the 49ers’ active roster after Sunday’s win over the Rams where he played 21 snaps – third most among the team’s WRs. He figures to be a go-to in-house depth piece for the 49ers should they have more injury issues at receiver.
Turner had a nice preseason, but couldn’t carve out a roster spot. He was elevated to the active roster for three games and contributed almost exclusively on special teams.
