49ers LB Dre Greenlaw appeared to injure his leg while running onto the field and NFL fans felt so bad

Playing in the Super Bowl alone can be a pinnacle achievement for an NFL player. It’s a culmination of all your hard work and commitment. And if you lose an opportunity to play in it, that ideally happens in your control, at least.

That’s what makes Dre Greenlaw’s apparent leg injury suffered during Super Bowl 58 so devastating.

In his second career Super Bowl, the star San Francisco 49ers linebacker got hurt while he was just running back onto the field. That is not a typo. While it’s not clear what exactly happened, this is just awful luck all around, and you have to feel so bad for Greenlaw:

Needless to say, any extended absence from Greenlaw could be disastrous for the 49ers, too. He’s one of their best defenders, and now he’s hurt because of what seemed like a freak accident.
