Just two years on from playing in England’s second tier, Leeds United are already among the 20 biggest revenue drivers in world football. At the end of only a second season in the Premier League, the Whites were making more money than all but eight other top-flight outfits.
Outside the traditional big six clubs, only West Ham United and Leicester City were making more money than Leeds at the end of last season. Deloitte Football Money League, the industry’s most contemporary and reliable independent analysis of financial performance, says Leeds have cracked the world’s top 20 for the first time in 19 seasons.
United’s astronomic rise to ninth in the Premier League revenue table after two seasons of Covid-affected football only underlines the immense potential of the club. It is a realisation of the vision 49ers Enterprises saw when it arrived on the scene in 2018.

It is why the investment arm of San Francisco 49ers is now gearing up for its final push towards full control at Elland Road. With fresh investment, new ideas, renewed energy and, critically, top-flight survival, Paraag Marathe and co will know all too well just how immense the potential of the club is.
Newcastle United, understandably in the nascent stages of their new administration when this information was harvested in May 2022, raked in £10m less than Leeds across the 21/22 campaign. The framework is there for the Whites to assert themselves as a top-half Premier League outfit.
These statistics, undoubtedly old news for financial minds in the Elland Road boardroom, can only encourage what may be around the corner under a new ownership model. The city, fan base, stadium footprint and income is there to take Leeds to the next level and beyond.
The small matter of remaining in the division this season is of paramount importance to keep this juggernaut edging in the right direction.
