49ers cornerback Jason Verrett is out for the season after suffering a shoulder injury in practice according to head coach Kyle Shanahan. Verrett will require surgery on a rotator cuff injury after taking a hard fall during practice in the lead up to the team’s Week 18 game vs. the Rams.
This is another in a long list of injury problems for Verrett, who has played more than six games only twice in his career, and four or fewer in five years. He played just one game with San Francisco this season against the Ravens in Week 16.
Shanahan indicated Verrett was due to play significant snaps in the 49ers’ season-finale. The veteran CB was on the practice squad, so his eventual placement on IR won’t open a roster spot.
Verrett played one game for San Francisco in 2019, 13 in 2020, one in 2021 and none in 2022. Just since joining the 49ers he’s suffered ACL, Achilles and now shoulder injuries.
