The 49ers announced Friday that the team has agreed to multiyear contract extensions with general manager John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan.
Shanahan and Lynch joined San Francisco in 2017 and have enjoyed stability and success ever since. Under the tandem’s guidance, the 49ers have posted a 55-46 regular-season record, including 45 wins since 2019, with two NFC West division titles.
They also boast a 6-3 playoff record since ’19, reaching three NFC championship games with one Super Bowl appearance.
In 2020, after the 49ers won the NFC championship and advanced to Super Bowl LIV, both Lynch and Shanahan earned extensions to their initial contracts with San Francisco. According to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, Lynch’s deal was set to expire after the 2024 season, and Shanahan’s was going to end in 2025.
When Shanahan completes this season, his seventh as head coach, he will be the longest-tenured 49ers head coach since George Seifert, who was also the last head coach to lead San Francisco to a title.
