4 rebels held with pistol in Manipur

IMPHAL: In separate raids, security forces on Monday arrested four cadres of the proscribed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) in Bishnupur district, the Assam Rifles said on Tuesday.

The troops recovered a 9mm pistol with seven bullets from the cadres, the paramilitary force said in a statement, adding that the group has been involved in extortion, IED blasts and also in the killing of one non-Manipuri individual in neighbouring Churachandpur district recently.

Acting on specific information, a team of security forces and Bishnupur district police commandos set up a mobile check post to track the movement of the insurgents, leading to their arrest. During on-the-spot questioning and verification, the individuals turned out to be active insurgents of NRFM, the statement added.
