Koustav Chowdhury from Jenkins School ranked fifth and Soumyaprabha Dey from Kolaghat Thermal Power Plant High School ranked sixth. Both are from HS schools. Dey had stood ninth in HS and eighth in Madhyamik. He wants to study at an IIT.

Almost all the toppers are waiting for JEE Mains.

The district with the highest number of successful students was North 24 Parganas, followed by Kolkata, West Midnapore, East Midnapore and Hooghly. Among those who cleared the state JEE, 18,338 candidates are from other states.

Mukherjee, who came third, said, "I have prepared for JEE Mains, and I appeared for WBJEE. My goal is to study electrical engineering at an IIT." Shaw, the only girl in the top 10, has set her sights on studying computer science.

The state JEE counselling will start in September, two-and-a-half months later.

Board chairperson Malayendu Saha said, "We have 10% reservation for JEE Mains. This has not begun. We expect the two phases of the exams to be completed in August. On the other hand, the seat matrix can also be expected around August 15, based on which admission will be conducted. This time is needed to complete these arrangements." Saha said registrations for three-phased counselling will start from third week of August.

This year, the exam was held on April 30 and results were published within 48 days. This year, the number of candidates was 20% more than last year.

The Board said 1.6 lakh model answer key and OMR sheets have been uploaded on the website, which students could challenge. Saha said, "The ISC exams were completed on June 13 and the CBSE exams d on June 15, otherwise the board could have declared the results a few days earlier."
