363 more police officers in Nottinghamshire to 'bear down on violent criminals'

An additional 363 police officers have been hired in Nottinghamshire Police to "bear down on violent criminals" and "protect communities". Extra officers are being deployed to help to tackle knife crime in the Nottingham area and protect vulnerable people from harm.

The Home Office recruitment campaign brings the total number of officers across 43 police forces in England and Wales to 142,759 – more than at any point in the last decade. Police Uplift Programme figures released on Wednesday, July 27 show 13,790 additional officers are now in place.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said: I have made it my priority to get more police on our streets, cut crime, protect the public and bring criminals to justice. With an extra 363 officers already recruited in Nottinghamshire this unprecedent recruitment drive will protect communities, keep homes and streets safe and bear down on violent criminals.”

Nottinghamshire Chief Constable Craig Guildford said: “I’m very pleased that we made such significant strides in becoming more representative of the communities we serve as part of the Uplift programme. We now have more female officers than ever before and the Uplift programme has helped us become one of the most representative forces nationally.

“This is important from an operational and an organisational perspective. Having an increasingly diverse team of highly competent individuals enables us to better understand all of the communities we serve and to deliver the very best service to all. I hope we can now use this as a platform to encourage the next generation to come forward and be proud to serve alongside us.”

The Government says it remains committed to driving down crime, protecting the public and increasing public confidence in the criminal justice system which means more officers on the streets bringing down drugs gangs, protecting vulnerable people and tackling neighbourhood crime.
