3 men arrested in Pune for trying to abduct woman constable

PUNE: The Bhosari MIDC police on Wednesday arrested an autorickshaw driver and his two accomplices on the charge of outraging the modesty of a police constable and also attempting to abduct her, when the latter told the driver to drive the vehicle properly.

The incident took place late on Tuesday night at Bharatmata Chowk in Moshi.

“As soon as the woman cop raised an alarm, the traffic policemen at the chowk chased down the autorickshaw and rescued her,” police sub-inspector (PSI) Sachin Chavan of the Bhosari MIDC police told TOI.

The trio — Vishwadeep Madlapure (19), Abhishek Pol (19) and Sunil Kasbe (20), all from Moshi — have been arrested under sections 365 (abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 279 (rash driving on public way) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“The trio has been remanded in police custody for three days,” Chavan said.

“We are probing why they tried to abduct the constable despite knowing she was a policewoman,” further said the police officer.
