2HD general manager Guy Ashford stood down following incident at awards

2HD general manager Guy Ashford has been suspended after an incident at the Australian Audio Awards ceremony last week.

Multiple people recorded presenter Cheralyn Darcey walking up on stage to receive her "best newcomer" award for her show The Nightline.

Mr Ashford moved towards Ms Darcey and embraced her before allegedly groping her.

He then raised his arms into the air as members of the crowd gasped.

The incident drew outrage from many who witnessed it.

"The real story here is about an extraordinary woman who has spent years breaking barriers, working harder than most people realise, achieving success against the odds, and too often being overlooked in the process," someone who witnessed the incident said.

"Now, after finally receiving industry recognition on a national stage, she can't even fully enjoy the achievement because of the way she was treated.

"Standing in front of the Australian audio industry should have been one of the proudest moments of her career.

"Instead, she was publicly shamed."

The Super Radio Network, which owns 2HD, has confirmed Mr Ashford has been stood down while the matter is addressed.
