24 Hours in A&E viewers brand gruesome foot injury 'worst thing they've seen'

24 Hours in A&E viewers were shocked after watching the 'worst injury they've ever seen on television'.

The Channel 4 show aired on Tuesday night and featured the Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham.

During the episode, viewers witness a woman called Kirsty with a compound fracture on her right leg.

Only a 'little bit of skin' and 'some ligament' were holding her foot in place.

A nurse explained: "She's going to need some ketamine."

Nurse Lou Davis, who has worked in the department for 32 years, said it was possibly one of the "grimmest" injuries she had ever seen.

She admitted she 'didn't like wobbly bones' or blood and gore.

Viewers of the programme were shocked by the graphic scenes playing out in front of them and took to social media to comment on it.

One disgusted viewer wrote: "Genuinely think that broken ankle on 24 hours in A&E was the worst thing I’ve ever seen on TV."

Another added: "I’ve watched every series of 24 hours in A&E and have never seen anything as graphic as that foot."

"Well, that poor woman's foot hanging off in 24 Hours In A&E has made me too scared to even walk up the stairs again," one concerned person posted.

"Omgggg 24 hours in A&E !! Ankle hanging on by a thread… literally," a viewer commented.

The series began in 2011 and gives viewers insight to some of Britain's busiest A&E departments.

Its newest season only returned to our screens earlier this week and was filmed outside of London for the first time.

24 Hours in A&E had many gruesome and heartbreaking moments in the last 10 or so years.

The new season also saw people sobbing over 92-year-old John who was struggling to breathe.

While tests were being carried out, his wife stood by his side. She discussed her relationship with John and their struggles when they were failing to conceive a child.

"I must say I don't feel like I'm on top of the world," John said.

It was discovered he had infection and sepsis, and tests determined nothing can be done so he had to be put on end-of-life care.

"It's like living outside your own body, you don't think these things are happening to you," his wife said.
