2027 Honda Civic Type R HRC Reportedly Heads To Production

  • Japanese reports say the Civic Type R HRC will enter production in 2027 on a facelifted FL5 Civic Type R.
  • HRC stands for Honda Racing Corporation, pointing to parts and development tied to Honda's motorsport programs.
  • Reports suggest a price around 7 million yen (about $45,600).

Honda has not confirmed a single spec for the Civic Type R HRC, and that has not stopped Japanese outlets from sketching out the car anyway. Fresh reporting now links the Tokyo Auto Salon concept to a 2027 production target.

That coverage, led by Response, describes more than a wild-aero show car. If the details are accurate, Honda's front-wheel-drive flagship could pick up serious hardware from the brand's racing arm.

Rumored For 2027

Response reports that the HRC variant would launch in 2027 on a facelifted FL5 Civic Type R that Honda is expected to reveal before the end of this year.

HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) runs the company’s Formula 1, MotoGP and Super GT efforts, and the badge is meant to signal competition-grade parts instead of a cosmetic pack. Type R development boss Hideki Kakinuma has reportedly focused the project on balanced gains rather than a Nürburgring lap-time grab.

The Tokyo Auto Salon concept is reportedly serving as a rolling test car in a Japanese endurance series, developing aero, cooling and engine pieces that could migrate to a road model over time.

Nothing here is official. Anyone considering a future Civic Type R HRC against today’s car is still working off rumor rather than a spec sheet.

How The Racing Hardware Could Reshape The FL5

The concept already shows the visual direction with a larger front intake, twin air guides, an extended lip spoiler, bigger rear wing endplates, a chunkier diffuser and an HRC-branded radiator behind the lower grille. An Akrapovič exhaust appeared on the show car at this early stage.

Mechanical rumors describe reworked suspension tuning, larger brakes, forged wheels and extra carbon fiber, with potential weight savings of about 50 pounds versus the standard car. Some reports mention a possible link to the HRC-K20C engine used in Super Taikyu, though Honda has not confirmed that connection.

The current turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four makes 315 horsepower in the US, and Japanese coverage points to an increase toward roughly 340 metric horsepower (335 hp) through software and intake and exhaust changes.

Pricing chatter in Japan puts the HRC at around 7 million yen (about $45,600), versus roughly 6.18 million yen for the standard local-market Civic Type R, with the premium working out to about $5,000 at current exchange rates. That positioning would make the HRC a low-volume halo model closer in spirit to Toyota’s GR and Nissan’s Nismo lines than to a routine Civic trim.

Motor1's Take: A production HRC would sharpen Honda’s performance halo and give enthusiasts a race-bred Civic. It matters most to buyers who want a road-legal track car.

Watch for official specs, a production timetable and homologation filings. Dealer allocation will show whether Honda treats the HRC as a halo car or a niche special.
