Malfoid Fan Art Trend Turns Draco Malfoy Into a Bratty Anime Girl With an Incel-Linked Name

A Harry Potter fan art trend has turned Draco Malfoy into a female anime-style character, with artists giving the Slytherin student platinum-blonde hair, exaggerated expressions and the bratty personality associated with the anime archetype known as a 'tsundere'.

The trend, known online as 'Malfoid', surged on X in late September 2026 after earlier fan art had depicted Draco as a girl. One of the earliest notable examples was posted by X user @grizz056 in March 2024, but the current wave gained wider attention after a series of illustrations appeared in September.

The name has also drawn attention because 'Malfoid' combines Malfoy's surname with 'foid', a derogatory term associated with incel communities. Know Your Meme has noted that the term appears to be used in the trend primarily as a nickname, without necessarily carrying its original meaning.

The Incel Link Behind 'Malfoid'

The nickname combines 'Malfoy' with 'foid', a shortened form of 'femoid'. The term has been used as a derogatory label for women in online incel communities and is derived from a combination of 'female' and 'android'.

Know Your Meme identifies the same connection in its documentation of the Malfoid trend, while noting that the current fandom use does not appear to be calling the character unintelligent or explicitly invoking the term's original meaning.

That distinction has become part of the discussion around the trend. Some people have questioned why a term with misogynistic associations was used when alternatives such as 'Fem Malfoy' were available. Others appear to treat 'Malfoid' simply as a pun created by combining the character's surname with 'foid'.

Female Draco Artwork Spreads Online

Know Your Meme reported that X user @redteneri posted a Malfoid illustration on 22 September showing the character making fun of Harry Potter. The post had received more than 89,000 likes and 9,500 reposts shortly after it was published.

Other artists followed with their own interpretations, including versions showing Malfoid competing with Hermione Granger for Harry's attention or displaying Draco's familiar arrogant and easily irritated personality.

The trend also moved beyond X. A Reddit post featuring the character appeared on the r/dankmemes subreddit in late September, with users referring to the female version by names including 'Draconia Malfoid'.

The March 2024 artwork by @grizz056 helped establish the gender-swapped concept, while the specific 'Malfoid' nickname and anime-inspired format gained wider attention in September 2026.

Fans Reimagine Draco as an Anime Girl

The artwork generally keeps Draco's familiar personality while changing his gender and visual presentation. Many versions depict Malfoid as smug, dismissive, easily embarrassed or deliberately bratty, while retaining the character's platinum-blonde hair and Slytherin styling.

Some illustrations place Malfoid in familiar Harry Potter scenarios involving Harry and Hermione, while others recreate Draco's expressions in an anime-inspired style. The trend has also generated fan-fiction and shipping discussions around a female Draco and her relationship with Harry.

Malfoid is not an official Harry Potter character or design. It is a fan-created interpretation that has spread through illustrations, memes and social media posts.

New artwork and fan-fiction continue to appear online, while discussion around the nickname has become part of the trend itself.
