The practices for the 2024 Reese’s Senior Bowl kick off on Tuesday morning. However, the players who will make up the American and National teams got their official measurements on Monday.
There are a few noteworthy developments from the weigh-ins, which were closed to the media. Here are some prospects who stood out in one way or another.
Brandon Dorlus questions get answered
There are a lot of varying projections about where Oregon defensive lineman Brandon Dorlus will play in the NFL. Some of that stems from his varying listed weights and versatile usage with the Ducks.
Dorlus checked in at 6-foot-3 and 272 pounds. With an arm length of 33 1/3 inches he has an impressive 81-inch wingspan. He’s almost the exact same size as 2022 second-round pick Josh Paschal; Dorlus is one pound lighter.
No country for light running backs
There are 10 running backs divided between the two teams. Not one of them weighed in at less than 200 pounds. That includes TCU’s Emani Bailey, who officially measured in at a little over 5-foot-7 and 208 pounds, and Kimani Vidal of Troy (5-foot-7 1/2 and 215 pounds).
The only running back who hit the six-foot height mark is South Dakota’s Isaiah Davis. The FCS standout is 6-foot and 220 pounds.
Jeremy Flax is a big man
Flax weighed in at a hefty 360 pounds on his 6-foot-5 frame. The lineman, who played right tackle and left guard at Kentucky, was listed by the Wildcats as 325 pounds. He’s the heaviest player in Mobile by over 25 pounds.
Light DBs on the American roster
The American roster features four defensive backs who weighed in at under 180 pounds:
Jaylin Simpson, Auburn – 178 pounds at 5-foot-11
D.J. James, Auburn – 5-foot-11 1/2 and 170 pounds
Kris Abrams-Draine, Missouri – 5-foot-11 1/3 and 173 pounds
Carlton Johnson, Fresno State – 5-foot-10 3/4 and 169 pounds
Jordan Morgan's arm length
Arizona offensive lineman Jordan Morgan is one prospect who gets projected at guard or tackle. The measurement didn’t exactly provide a lot of clarity.
Morgan is just under 6-foot-5 and 312 pounds. He’s got giant hands; Morgan tied with West Virginia center Zach Frazier with the biggest hands on the National team at 10 5/8 inches. But Morgan’s arm length is just 32 7/8 inches. That’s short for a tackle and very short for a 6-foot-5 lineman in general. His wingspan of 81 1/3 inches is quite a bit longer than you’d expect for someone with his arm length, however.
Jacob Cowing shrunk
Arizona listed wide receiver Jacob Cowing as 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds. The Wildcats program was close on the weight; the prolific slot weighed in at 165 pounds.
The height, not so much…
Cowing is on the National roster at a hair over 5-foot-8. His wingspan of 69 1/4 inches makes him a very tiny target, the only player on either roster who didn’t top 70 inches
