2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards: When and how to watch

Drew Barrymore is set to host the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023 when it is held this weekend and there is still time for you to get involved.

The event, which began in 1992, is considered the unofficial start of the summer blockbuster season and is traditionally known as an event to honour crowd pleasers rather than niche tastes.

Winners of the 14 awards will take home the golden popcorn statue and categories to look out for include ‘best kiss,’ ‘best fight,’ and ‘best villain’ alongside more traditional gongs such as ‘best movie’.

The latter will be contested between Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Elvis, Nope, Scream VI, Smile, and Top Gun: Maverick.

Here is all there is to know about one of the more entertaining events on the Hollywood calendar.

How to vote in the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023

The MTV awards are unusual for allowing audience voting in categories in the weeks before it is held. Most of the categories have now closed for voting.

However, there is still a chance to cast your vote to decide the winner of the ‘best musical moment’.

To vote, click on the category on the stories part of the awards’ Instagram page here: https://www.instagram.com/mtv/

When are the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023?

The MTV awards are on Sunday, May 7, at 8pm Eastern time — which is 1am here in the UK, but luckily, for anyone staying up late, you have a bank holiday to recover. God save the King!

The event will be held at Barker Hangar, a huge entertainment venue at Santa Monica Airport in California. Consider it a Hollywood take on Gatwick!

How to watch the MTV Movie & TV Awards 2023

The ceremony will be on MTV’s channel and website, which can be viewed with a Paramount+ account. The streaming service has a seven-day free trial and is then £6.99 per month.

Barrymore said in an Instagram reel: “I am so honoured to have been chosen to host this year. It is all about you!

“It is going to be an epic night, big moments, huge movie stars… Cocaine Bear, are you free on May 7?” she asks the star of the recent horror film, who grunts in approval.
