17 Scottish words and phrases we think even non-Scots should use

There are a lot of words and phrases in Scotland we use that may be baffling to outsiders or visitors but for us, what is actually confusing is the fact that other people don't use them. Especially when they don't have a direct equivalent in the English language or they do but it just doesn't sum things up as well.

With the Scots, Gaelic and Doric languages and dialects combining with those other regional variants found in the islands and other parts of Scotland, there are some truly magical words out there we've become so used to using. So much so, that we might not even realise they are only used in Scotland until you come across the bemused look on a non-Scot's face after we've used them.

But to be honest, there are so many that are so ideal for certain occasions and circumstances that we think everyone should use them, here are some of our favourites.
