Polish police have arrested a 16-year-old male on suspicion of attacking a synagogue with Molotov cocktails and plan to request prosecutors to open an investigation. The Nozyk Synagogue in Warsaw was targeted around 1 a.m. on Wednesday, resulting in damage to its facade. Fortunately, no one was present in the prayer hall at the time, and there were no reported injuries.

The arrest was made by the police in collaboration with the Internal Security Agency on Wednesday evening. The teenager, a Polish national with no prior criminal record, was taken into custody. According to police spokesperson Robert Szumiata, the suspect remained uncooperative and did not disclose his motives for the attack.

Authorities intend to submit a formal request to the prosecutor's office to commence an investigation. If found guilty, the 16-year-old could face a maximum sentence of up to 10 years in prison. The charges are likely to be based on a section of the penal code that stipulates severe penalties for individuals who cause events endangering the lives or property of many people through actions like arson.

It remains to be seen whether the court will treat the teenager as an adult in this case, as indicated by the police spokesperson. The legal proceedings will determine the level of responsibility to be assigned to the suspect for the alleged attack on the synagogue.
