Wembley fire: 150 people evacuated as Holiday Inn blaze rages yards from stadium

A fire has broken out at a hotel in Wembley - (SugSean/X)

Around 150 people were evacuated after a fire broke out at a 13-storey hotel yards from Wembley Stadium on Friday.

Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters raced to the Holiday Inn on Empire Way after flames broke out on the second floor.

Guests and staff had already fled the building before fire crews arrived, with around 150 people evacuating safely.

Video circulating on social media showed flames erupting from the building as columns of smoke billowed into the sky.

The London Fire Brigade received the first of 29 calls reporting the blaze at 12.35pm.

Crews from Park Royal, Willesden, Northolt and surrounding fire stations were sent to the scene.

Firefighters brought the blaze under control by 1.20pm.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The blaze had no impact on Friday night’s concert by The Weeknd - the first night in their five-gig run at Wembley Stadium, as part of the After Hours til Dawn tour.
