120 kg of gold, 2 million ancient coins and a rare Confucius portrait found in the tomb of a Chinese emperor who ruled for just 27 days — archaeologists uncover a 2,000-year-old fortune buried with the fallen ruler

A Chinese emperor who ruled for just 27 days has left behind one of the most remarkable archaeological discoveries of the Han Dynasty. His 2,000-year-old tomb contained more than 2 million ancient coins, around 120 kilograms of gold and a rare image of Confucius, giving researchers an extraordinary look at the wealth and culture of ancient China.

The tomb belonged to Liu He, the grandson of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty. Although Liu He’s time on the throne was extremely short, the objects buried with him show just how wealthy and influential he remained.
