Whether you’re run down, jet lagged or feeling a cold coming on, a green powder supplement could be the vitamin boost your body (and immune system) is in desperate need of.
So, what is a green powder? They’re powder supplements (which don’t necessarily have to be green) that are made up of plant-based ingredients, which normally include vegetables and fruits, and algae such as spirulina, wheatgrass, and kale powders. Some contain vitamins, such as iron, zinc, or C and B12, as well as probiotics or even mushroom extracts.
Each powder can give you different results, depending on its ingredients. However, as you’re consuming vitamins, plus vegetables and fruits, you’re likely to boost your immunity and feel more energised, while some even help with supporting gut health.
However, with so many green powders on the market, it’s tricky to know which one will be best for you. Looking at your goals is a good start: are you looking to improve your gut health, energy levels, or have glowy skin? Budget is a big part, too – but luckily, I’ve covered them all, from the expensive powders to the more affordable ones. I have tried and tested them all, enabling you to make the most informed decision on which of the best green powder supplements is right for you.

How I tested

I followed the instructions on each pack – some were consumed with just water, while others were added to milk or as part of a shake. I tested each for at least a week, making sure I reaped the benefits so I could see how they affected my health. I tested all the green powders first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach and considered the taste, ease of mixing, price, and any benefits. You can read my full testing methodology at the end of the review.
AG1 greens

Best: greens powder overall
Size: 360g
Flavours: Original
Subscription available: Yes, £79 per month
Why we love it
- Great taste
- Mixes well
- Gut and immunity booster
Take note
- Expensive
AG1 greens is the best greens powder I’ve tasted. Unlike many other powders, it won’t make you wince while you knock it back before your breakfast. It contains 75 minerals and vitamins, which the brand says help with everything from hormone function to immunity. I took one scoop of this powder, mixed it with water and ice, before whizing it up in a blender for the best taste. However, you could just add it to cold water or coconut water and shake it up in the brand’s shaker, which comes with your first order.
The pack of slightly sweet-tasting greens powder lasts for 30 days, but you can also buy the travel packs, so you can keep up your health kick when you’re away. As well as the taste, I was impressed with the benefits – I did notice a boost in energy around mid-morning. The gluten- and dairy-free powder, which is suitable for vegans, also has live cultures, so it gave my gut a boost, too.
At more than double the price of most other powders in this list, the only downside is just how expensive this one is.

Sevenhills organic superfood blend

Best: budget organic greens powder
Size: 400g
Flavours: Original
Subscription available: No
Why we love it
- Improved gut health
- Recyclable packaging
Sevenhills organic superfood blend is one of the cheaper greens powders on my list, making it a great choice if you’re on a budget. Despite its affordable price, it still contains ingredients such as spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass and barley grass to give your insides a healthy boost.
I originally tried the greens powder on its own with just water, but the gritty taste meant I went searching for ways to make it more palatable. I added it to protein shakes and my oat lattes, which helped it taste a little sweeter, though it still had an earthy tang to it. However, after a week, I could feel an improvement in my gut health, while the brand gets brownie points for using recyclable pouches.

Huel daily greens

Best: greens powder for packing in vitamins
Size: 255g
Flavours: Original and watermelon
Subscription: Yes, saves you £5
Why we love it
- The taste is delicious
- Tons of vitamins
- Easy to drink
Huel is well known for its protein powders, meal replacement shakes, and bars, so I was interested to see how its greens powder measured up against its competitors. Packed with 91 vitamins and minerals, superfoods, antioxidants, adaptogens, probiotics – it means you’re going to get your vitamin hit all at once – including vitamin C, iron and zinc. Despite containing no artificial flavourings or sweeteners, the watermelon flavour was still delicious, making me forget I was even drinking a greens supplement.

Easy to prepare, it mixed well and was easy to drink. At £50 (or £45 with a subscription), it’s a bit more expensive than the others on my list, but it's one I’d happily drink every day.

Wild Nutrition food-grown organic protein + superfood powder

Best: protein-packed greens powder
Size: 350g
Flavour: Berry
Subscription available: Yes, £20.83 per month
Why we love it
- Nice berry flavour
- Vegan-friendly
- Contains added protein
Wild Nutrition’s powder isn’t just your bog-standard greens powder; it also comes complete with protein powder. I mixed it with coconut milk and a banana in a smoothie, which complemented the berry flavour. Unlike most of the others in my review, this blend also contains seven types of mushrooms, including lion’s mane and chaga, which, over the week, helped me to focus on my work and keep afternoon slumps at bay.
The organic, vegan-friendly powder only lasts for 14 days, however, so it could be one to get on subscription, which will save you money on the price per pack, too.

Shreddy supergreens

Best: for hair and nails
Size: 240g
Flavours: Mango and pineapple
Subscription available: Yes
Why we love it
- Great taste
- Immune booster
- Good price
Shreddy supegreens mango and pineapple powder was easy to drink in water – it mixed well, with no bitter aftertaste.
For me, the benefits of the ingredients list – think turmeric, spinach and green tea extract – were shinier hair and better gut health, as the powder includes 5 billion probiotic bacteria. I’m sure if I continued to use it, I’d see other benefits, which are said to be increased energy levels and immunity shielding.

WelleCo the super elixir

Best: tasting greens powder
Size: 300g
Flavours: Blood orange (tested), original unflavoured, lemon and ginger
Subscription available: Yes, £50.40 per month
Why we love it
- Great taste
- Mixes well with just water
- Strengthens nails
If the flavour is what’s putting you off, I found WelleCo’s the super elixir to be the best-tasting greens powder. With a distinctive blood orange taste, the brand’s super elixir is packed with 40 plant-based ingredients, including botanical herbs and probiotics.
I found it very easy to drink, with a lovely taste when mixed with just water – I finished it in around 30 minutes, and there was no gritty aftertaste or residue left at the bottom. The powder, which also has an original unflavoured taste, plus a lemon and ginger flavour, helped me through a spring cold. Plus, it seemed to make my nails grow incredibly fast.

TriActive super greens and ginger root

Best: greens powder
Size: 300g
Flavours: Original
Subscription: No
Why we love it
- Easy to mix
- Great energy boost
Take note
- The taste is quite gritty
TriActive’s super greens powder is packed with vitamins and fruit and vegetable powders, including ginger, making it a great choice for injecting immunity-boosting properties into your morning routine. It’s recommended you use 10g a day for all the benefits. Don’t be put off by the smell and look (a dull grey colour) when it's mixed – it actually tastes okay on its own, but I also added it to a green smoothie.

I trialled it for a few weeks and drinking it regularly boosted my energy levels throughout the day, meaning I didn’t have that afternoon slump. At £20, it will last you a month (if you drink it every day) – which is great value for money.

Myprotein super green blend

Best: Greens powder for flavour variety
Size: 250g or 500g
Flavours: Raspberry and cranberry (tested), unflavoured, peach and mango, rhubarb, strawberry and lime
Subscription available: No
Why we love it
- Good choice of flavours
- Easy to mix
Take note
- Bitter aftertaste
While WelleCo’s the super elixir wins for overall flavour, if you’re looking for a variety of options to choose from, I’d recommend Myprotein’s super green blend. There is a whole range of different flavours to choose from, including rhubarb, peach and mango.
Packed with eight superfood ingredients and vitamins galore, I tried this super blend both with water and in a smoothie, but found it mixed better with just water and ice. Although I could note the sweet raspberries and cranberries, which masked the taste, it still had a bitter aftertaste. Easy to mix, it didn’t leave any residue as I drank it.

Erbology organic wheatgrass powder

Best: Greens powder for cleansing
Size: 90g
Flavours: Wheatgrass
Subscription available: Yes, £11.69 per month
Why we love it
- Natural ingredients
- Great to mix into juices
Take note
- Earthy taste when consumed on its own
Fresh wheatgrass shots used to be the epitome of wellness, sold in health shops all over the world, but now the superfood can be found in greens powders or, if you so want, on its own from Erbology.
I found the plant extract is great for boosting energy and cleansing the body, especially after a heavy weekend. While the wheatgrass has the same earthy, gritty taste when mixed with water on its own, I found adding it to a smoothie or juice masked the taste.
You’ll get your money’s worth here, too, as the small pot contains 45 servings. Erbology also has other powders to choose from, including chlorella and barley grass powder – this means you can mix and match, depending on the health benefit you’re looking for.

Aduna Superfood super greens

Best: Greens powder for cognitive health
Size: 250g
Flavour: Green and zesty
Subscription available: No
Why we love it
- Mood booster
- Organic ingredients
Aduna Superfood super greens is completely natural, organic and free from sweeteners. Not only does it contain minerals and green vegetables, but it also contains lion’s mane mushroom, making it my pick as the best greens powder for cognitive health.
I tested the powder with a couple of scoops in water, and found that the gritty grass-cuttings taste meant it had to be drunk quite quickly. But it can be added to juices or smoothies with sweet ingredients to mask the taste. And I do think the benefits outweigh the bad taste.

Free Soul greens

Best: Greens powder for hormonal balance

Why we love it
- Great taste
- Good for reducing bloating and balancing hormones
Free Soul greens is the best for hormonal balance. Formulated especially for women, this greens powder contains 21 natural and nutrient-dense greens and superfoods designed to support immunity and boost energy levels.
I loved drinking the mango-flavoured drink with water or coconut milk and found it helped to balance my hormones and digestion around my time of the month. Flavoured with stevia, a plant-based, non-artificial sweetener, it won’t spike your blood sugar levels either, which is a massive win.

Innermost the greens blend

Best: Greens powder for travelling
Size: 6g sachets (30 sachets)
Flavours: Peach
Subscription: No
Why we love it
- Easy to travel with
- Nice taste
Take note
- Keep shaking to avoid separation
The Innermost greens blend comes in individually wrapped sachets, making it a great option for travelling. Each sachet contains 25 real greens, including spirulina, chlorella, wheatgrass, barley grass and spinach, as well as probiotics to support gut health. The powder mixed well with water, especially after a couple of shakes or a whisk, but I did find that it separated quite quickly – albeit nothing that another quick shake couldn’t fix.

Flavoured with peach, which gave it a sweeter edge – but it wasn’t overwhelming. At less than £30 for 30 sachets, I think that’s pretty good value for money, too – a healthy habit that won’t break the bank.

Your questions on greens powder answered
What is the best greens powder?
AG1 is the best greens powder. It’s easy to drink and mix, while being one of the best-tasting and performing green powder supplements I’ve encountered. Although it is an expensive investment – at just under £100 (£79 a month, if you subscribe) – I found myself with a happy gut, more energy and clearer skin.
If your budget doesn’t stretch that far, the new formula from Huel, its daily greens range, is a close second – it was tasty and was packed with all the right vitamins for a great immunity boost.
