Start With the Festival Itself
Dussehra hands you a ready-made project. Get children to build a small Ravana effigy from newspaper rolls, old cardboard tubes, and leftover paint. The construction takes a full afternoon. Decorating it takes another. On the evening of the burn, they watch something they made disappear, which lands differently than watching a stranger's effigy on a screen. Pair it with the story: the Ramayana is long enough to tell in instalments across several evenings, one chapter per night, with the child asking questions and filling gaps. You will be surprised how many plot holes they find.
