1 injured in Khadki ammo factory blast

PUNE: A junior works manager (technical-chemical) was injured in a blast on Monday afternoon during the drying of explosives at the Ammunition Factory Khadki (AFK), a premier unit that supplies small arms and ammunition to the Indian armed forces.

“An accident occurred in one of the production sections at Ammunition Factory Khadki, Pune, during drying of explosives, in which D R Thakre, junior works manager/technical (chemical), was injured and is hospitalized,” a statement issued by the Ammunition Factory Khadki read.

Dr Kapil Zirpe, chief intensivist of the hospital where Thakre is being treated, said, “He has severe head trauma with subdural hematoma. He underwent emergency decompression craniectomy as a life-saving surgery. He is on a ventilator with high support.”
