The Narendra Modi government has “strangulated” democracy and the Prime Minister had shown his “disdain” for Parliament, Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi said, referring to the face-off between the Opposition and the government over the December 13 security breach in the Lok Sabha.

It’s a questionable record for India with a total of 141 opposition MPs now suspended from Parliament. Ninety-five are from the Lok Sabha and 46 from the Rajya Sabha.
