A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar on Friday (28 March ), sending tremors as far as Bangkok, and prompting Thai prime minister to declare a state of emergency.

A powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake has rocked Southeast Asia , causing buildings to collapse and sparking fears thousands could be dead

The shallow 7.7-magnitude tremor hit northwest of the city of Sagaing, central Myanmar, and was followed minutes later by a 6.4-magnitude aftershock, toppling buildings, rupturing roads and collapsing the well-known Ava bridge.

Videos capturing the moments of Friday's powerful earthquake in Myanmar, which sent strong tremors through Bangkok, show buildings shaking, water spilling from rooftop pools, and residents rushing to evacuate.

While the United States talked military assistance and minerals with Ukraine, Russia did the same with one of its few remaining allies: Myanmar.
