CHICAGO — An off-duty Cook County Sheriff working security at Millennium Park shot a man after the man fired a gun Friday evening, Chicago police said.

The fatal shooting occurred Sunday morning in a Gresham apartment complex on the South Side.

A 22-year-old man was attempting to enter the park in the first block of East Monroe Street but he refused to be checked for weapons at the entry point, police said.
