The Michigan Supreme Court on Friday rejected hearing an appeal from serial sex offender Larry Nassar, concluding that the case presented a "close question" regarding the conduct of Ingham County Circuit Judge Rosemarie Aquilina during his sentencing.

The bureau knew for months about Nassar’s behavior before acting — enabling him to abuse dozens more people.

There’s no dispute that FBI agents in 2015 knew that Nassar was accused of assaulting gymnasts, but they failed to act, leaving him free to continue to target young women and girls for more than a year. He pleaded guilty in 2017 and is serving decades in prison.

Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, McKayla Maroney and Aly Raisman are among the plaintiffs.

DETROIT — Alleging the FBI mishandled its investigation into sexual abuse allegations against Michigan State University sports doctor Larry Nassar, some of gymnastics’ biggest names have filed claims seeking more than $1 billion against the bureau, attorneys announced Wednesday.

A Justice Department watchdog had previously found that FBI agents botched the response to reports of abuse in 2015.

The Justice Department last month again declined to charge the FBI agents accused of mishandling the case.
