HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. — A Lake County grand jury on Wednesday indicted Robert Crimo III on 117 felony counts in the Fourth of July mass shooting in Highland Park that killed seven people and wounded dozens of others.

A group began arguing in the parking lot of a business in the 38900 block of North Lewis Avenue when someone involved opened fire and fled the scene, the Lake County sheriff’s office said.

When gunfire started at the July 4 parade, Highland Park Mayor Nancy Rotering testified Wednesday, “Adults stared back, not comprehending. But the kids knew immediately this wasn’t a drill and they yelled to everyone to run and hide. They knew what was happening.”
