Several organizations are asking for assistance in helping those impacted by Hurricane Fiona.

The deadly storm is packing 115 mp winds as it approaches the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Gov. Kathy Hochul said Monday that New York would send drones to the Dominican Republic and more than 100 state troopers to Puerto Rico as Hurricane Fiona’s driving winds and rains crushed the Caribbean.

When Hurricane Fiona lashed Puerto Rico Sunday, it left at least one dead, washed out bridges and roads, ripped off roofs and sent more than 2,100 people scrambling to emergency shelters. It also laid bare, once again, just how sickly the island’s power infrastructure is.

As an already catastrophic Hurricane Fiona set its sights on the Turks and Caicos Islands after making landfall in the Dominican Republic and the U.S. territory of Puerto Rico, the government of the British territory just south of Florida issued shutdown orders for three of its low-lying islands.

The hurricane sustained winds of 144 kmph and the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said."Life-threatening flash and urban flooding is likely for eastern portions of the Dominican Republic.”
