The largest teachers' union, the EIS, is urging members to move to strike action in pursuit of a ten per cent pay demand.

There have been numerous rounds of talks between Cosla, unions and the Scottish Government to agree a pay deal for council staff

Cosla said its latest proposal ‘shows that Scotland’s council leaders have listened to the concerns of our workforce’.

The EIS said the current offer is effectively ‘a deep and painful real-terms pay cut for Scotland’s hard-working teachers’.
