NEW YORK: The American branch of Binance, the giant cryptocurrency exchange, said late Thursday that it would no longer allow customers to trade on its platform using United States dollars, after its banking partners cut the firm off in response to a crackdown by federal regulators.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission alleges that Binance and Coinbase Global violated various securities rules.

The SEC is suing Coinbase, alleging that it's an unregistered securities broker, after targeting Binance the day before.

Yellen said she would still like to see Congress plug the remaining holes in crypto regulation.
