Environmental activist Greta Thunberg swiftly resumed campaigning on Wednesday after she was briefly detained in Germany during a protest against a coal mine expansion, tweeting that protecting the climate was not a crime.

Thunberg had traveled to Germany to join protests in the tiny village of Lützerath, which for years has been slated for demolition to make way for the expansion of a nearby open-pit coal mine.

Many provinces have seen an exceptionally cold winter, with temperatures dropping to as low as -21 degrees Celcius.
