‘While we have reached some significant interim findings, we are not done,’ says CIA Director William Burns

Investigation finds majority of cases probably linked to pre-existing medical conditions, environmental factors or stress

The CIA has found that it is unlikely that Russia or another "foreign actor" caused most of the anomalous health incidents that have afflicted U.S. diplomats and intelligence officers worldwide for years, an official with the spy agency said on Thursday.

U_S_ officials say the CIA believes it's unlikely that Russia or another foreign adversary is using microwaves or other forms of directed energy to attack hundreds of American diplomats and intelligence officers who attribute their brain injuries and other symptoms to what's come to be known as “Havana syndrome.”

Spy agency’s early findings say most cases of mysterious affliction affecting US diplomats explained by other factors.

"While we have reached some significant interim findings, we are not done," CIA Director William Burns said.

Most cases of so-called Havana Syndrome can be explained by environmental causes, undiagnosed medical conditions or stress, rather than actions by a foreign power, The New York Times reported on Thursday, citing Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officials.
