New York is holding elections, including for municipal offices, on Nov. 7, 2023. A number of candidates running in these elections completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Both of the candidates running in the Aug. 29, 2023, Democratic primary runoff election for Mississippi House of Representatives District 66 — Roshunda Harris-Allen (D) and Fabian Nelson (D) — completed Ballotpedia’s Candidate Connection survey. These survey responses allow voters to hear directly from candidates about what motivates them to run for office.

Ballotpedia tracked one new state-level candidate in Indiana between July 31 and Aug. 6. This was one more candidate than the prior week. 

Ballotpedia tracked one new state-level candidate in Texas between July 31 and Aug. 6. This was eight fewer candidates than the prior week. 

Three new candidates declared their intent to run for state-level offices in North Carolina between July 31 and Aug. 6, according to Ballotpedia’s ongoing tracking. This was three more candidates than the prior week.

Sixteen incumbents in the 52-member Mississippi State Senate faced primary challengers on Aug. 8. As of Aug. 9, Sen. Philip Moran (R), of District 46, was the only incumbent defeated in the primary, while the race featuring Sen. Sarita Simmons (D), of District 13, was too close to call.

Ballotpedia tracked two new recall efforts against local officials in Texas from July 31-Aug. 6, bringing the yearly statewide total to eight efforts against 16 officials. The most recent efforts are:
