KOLKATA: All zoos, museums and parks — including amusement and entertainment parks — will reopen from Tuesday with 75% capacity after the state government on Monday relaxed the Covid restrictions that were earlier enforced in January.
Officials of Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA), the custodians of Rabindra Sarobar and Subhas Sarobar, said the lakes are going to open from Tuesday in two shifts. Till Monday, they were kept open from 6am to 9am. From Tuesday, they will be opened in the evening — from 4pm to 6pm — as well. “The lakes will gradually be opened as per government instructions, keeping an eye on the Covid situation,” said a KMDA official, adding that all the parks maintained by KMDA will also open in a day or two. Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) had earlier reopened all its major parks across the city.
In New Town, Eco Park is to reopen from Tuesday for visitors from noon to 7.30pm, a Hidco official said.
Various museums in the city, including Victoria Memorial Hall, Indian Museum, Science City and Birla Industrial & Technological Museum, will reopen after a month on Tuesday. At Victoria, the 57-acre currently remains open between 6am and 9am. From Tuesday, the garden will be open from 6am to 6pm while the museum will remain open from 10am to 6pm. “We will also start the light-and-sound show at 6.30pm from Tuesday,” Victoria curator Jayanta Sengupta said.
Indian Museum will also remain open from 10am to 6pm from Tuesday, director Arijit Dutta Choudhury said. While Science City will remain open from 9.30am to 7pm, BITM will keep its doors open from 9.30am to 6pm. Nicco Park will also remain open from 10.30am to 6.30pm with 75% capacity.
