Zooey Deschanel and Johnathan Scott's Christmas decor uses a trending color scheme with classic motifs for the best holiday decoration I've seen this year

Jonathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel.

What is this feeling? Unadulterated joy. Zooey Deschanel and Johnathan Scott's whimsical holiday decorations invite pure fun and elegance. The recurrence of green and pink throughout is reminiscent of one of this year's biggest films, Wicked.

We noticed the color scheme when Scott shared a video of the family's Christmas decor to his Drew & Jonathan website. In the video, he walks through his and Zooey's house, explaining each decision. He points out his collection of nutcrackers, their variety of stockings, and each vignette they've created to give the space personality. He states: 'I like it to be a bit nostalgic, a little bit fun, and a whole lot of holiday spirit.' These descriptors certainly come to mind when looking through.

However, another motif is also conjured: the color scheme of Wicked. Though the overall look is eclectic, pink and green occur repeatedly. From the pink and green ornaments on the garland in the entryway to the pink Christmas tree in the living room, the combination is everywhere. Green is chief among colors that go with pink, and the pairing has become even more popular since Ariana Grande and Cynthia Eviro graced the silver screen as Glinda and Elphaba. Across the retail space, consumers can't get enough of the striking color opposites.

Pop culture phenomena like the beloved film are a fruitful source of inspiration for interior design trends. Gill Baker, Head of Décor at B&Q states: It’s always brilliant to see cultural moments, like the release of the Wicked movie, influencing people’s home interiors. Just like "Barbiecore" blew up last year, "Wickedcore" is set for its own moment, where we’ll see emerald green and pastel pink tones incorporated into the home.' Now, we're seeing the principle applied to Christmas decor.

What is particularly alluring about Deschanel and Scott's design is that they've applied this non-traditional color scheme to motifs we've come to know and love. For instance, there's nothing more classic than a Christmas tree, but rather than a 'normal' Christmas tree, Scott and Deschanel have turned the look on its head by turning it pink with green ornaments. On the other hand, a quirky color scheme like pink and green might feel garish without grounding in traditional design. Thus they ground the look by placing pink and green ornaments on a classic evergreen garland around the banister.

Integrating trends from current cultural moments can add a level of fun and whimsy to your Christmas decor, while still maintaining the integrity of your personal style. Johnathan Scott and Zooey Deschanel's decor is the perfect demonstration.
