A judge seals Cornell case files after a Marine who shares a name with one of the accused men and his family face threats over a wrong address

A New York judge has just stepped in to seal several documents in a lawsuit involving sexual assault allegations at Cornell University. According to The Washington Post, Judge Phaedra F. Perry-Bond of the New York Supreme Court in New York County made the decision after it became clear that the address of a US Marine, who happens to share the same name as one of the defendants, was mistakenly included in the public court files.

The New York Times reported that the plaintiff’s lawyer included the wrong address for a man named Matthew Ingalls, who was one of seven men accused of assault. All of the accused deny wrongdoing. Unfortunately, that address belonged to the family of a Marine sergeant, who has no connection to Cornell. On September 26, the mother of the innocent Marine was served with the court papers. Shortly after, the family reportedly began receiving violent death threats via social media, text messages, and phone calls.
