Zinchenko, Partey, Smith Rowe - Arsenal injury news and expected return dates before Brentford

Arsenal are set for Premier League action for the first time in two weeks this weekend when they travel to Brentford on Sunday. A win for Mikel Arteta will see his side enter the first international break as league leaders, as well as the hope of a response after falling to a 3-1 defeat against Manchester United last time out.

The Gunners are currently sat top of the table after five wins from their opening six games. Their home clash against Everton last weekend was postponed following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II last Thursday.

Their Europa League fixture against PSV at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday was also postponed, with a rescheduled date already organised. There were also fears that the fixture against Brentford would be postponed due to policing issues, but the decision was made to move the fixture forward from a 2pm kick-off to 12pm.

Oleksandr Zinchenko returned to the starting line-up for the defeat at Old Trafford, lasting 74 minutes, but there appears to be a complication over his place against Brentford. In positive news, it appears as though Thomas Partey could be involved in some capacity.

Here, football.london takes a look at the injury latest within the Arsenal squad ahead of their Premier League return against Brentford on Sunday.

Oleksandr Zinchenko

Summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko is the latest in a long list of absentees for the Gunners in recent weeks, despite recently making a comeback from injury. The Ukraine captain has been confirmed as missing by the nation's FA, who claim that he picked up a calf muscle injury and will take two weeks to recover from it.

Expected return date: Tottenham (H) - October 1.

Emile Smith Rowe

Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe has suffered with a stop-start beginning to the season, unable to get a clean run of games to break back into the first-team. An injury worry coming into the campaign prevented an ideal start, while his return has since been marred by an issue suffered against Manchester United.

What Arteta has said: "He felt discomfort in an area that [he's been dealing with] now for a few weeks. He wasn't comfortable after the game, and he hasn't trained in the last few days, so he's out of the squad."

Expected return date: Unknown

Thomas Partey

The Ghanaian midfielder featured in the Gunners' opening three league games of the season but has missed the last three league games against Fulham, Aston Villa and Manchester United.

football.london's Arsenal reporter Kaya Kaynak understood that the 29-year-old suffered a tight right thigh from a training session, a reoccurring issue for the midfielder. However, reports early this week have now suggested he returned to full training and is set for a return to the squad against Brentford.

Expected return date: Brentford (H) - September 18.

Mohamed Elneny

Elneny remains out of action after picking up an injury in the 2-1 victory over Fulham towards the end of August. The 30-year-old had come in to replace Partey alongside Granit Xhaka in midfield prior to the London derby and played the full 90 minutes.

football.london understands that the Egyptian is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

What Arteta has said: "With Mo (Elneny), probably it is a little bit easier, and we are talking months."

Expected return date: Unknown

Cedric Soares

Arsenal right-back Cedric has been missing since just before the FC Zurich clash last week, picking up a knock in training ahead of the Europa League tie. It remains to be seen when he will make his return to the senior squad.

Expected return date: Unknown

Reiss Nelson

Young winger Nelson suffered an injury problem in training a few weeks back and is likely set for a significant time on the treatment table, as per Arteta.

What Arteta has said: "Everybody has trained this week, and everybody is fine apart from Reiss, who you know has been injured for a few weeks now.

"He felt something in training, we scanned him, and the doctor came with bad news. It's a muscular injury; hopefully, he will be back soon. [We don't know how long for] yet. They need to do another test."

Expected return date: Unknown
