Second-year linebacker Zeke Vandenburgh is still a member for the Miami Dolphins — at least, for now.
Vandenburgh, 25, was waived/injured by the Dolphins on Monday. When he cleared waivers Tuesday by going unclaimed, Vandenburgh reverted to Miami’s injured reserve.
The Dolphins signed Vandenburgh as an undrafted free agent in 2023 and he spent his entire rookie season on the team’s injured reserve with an undisclosed injury.
While Miami hasn’t revealed the nature of the issue that ended his 2024 season, he reportedly had an MRI on his knee after suffering an injury in the team’s preseason opener. He returned to play against the Washington Commanders, but again left with an injury.
Prior to the injuries, Vandenburgh was impressing in practices and was singled out by linebacker David Long Jr. as a player who was “having a hell of a camp.”
Vandenburgh earned the Buck Buchanan Award in 2022, recognizing the best defensive player at the FCS level, after recording 21 tackles for a loss and 14 sacks in his final season at Illinois State.
