Zayn Malik has officially postponed his first-ever solo tour following the heartbreaking death of fellow One Direction bandmate Liam Payne.
In a statement to his Instagram Stories, the 31-year-old “PILLOWTALK” singer confirmed that the US leg of his Stairway To The Sky Tour has been put on hold following the devestating news of Payne’s death.
“Given the heartbreaking loss experienced this week, I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY Tour,” Malik wrote in an Instagram Story on Sunday (Australian time).
“The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days.
“Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for understanding.”
The Stairyway To The Sky Tour was set to kick off in the next couple of days, with Malik’s first gig taking place in San Francisco on the 23rd of October and then finally wrapping up on December 3 in Newcastle.
Prior to Malik’s official statement, fans flocked to the official tour announcement, expressing their support for the artist if he chose to cancel his tour following Payne’s death.
“If he cancels. I better not hear one complaint,” one fan wrote.
“Dear Zayn, from the bottom of my heart, please postpone the tour until your heart can heal after this loss. Your fans around the world will understand and always have your back,” another commented.
Last Wednesday, the world was left devestated following Payne’s death, who passed away after he fell from his hotel balcony in Buenos Aires.
A day after the news, Malik shared a personal statement on Instagram, reflecting on his relationship with Payne and how he “secretly respected” his fellow bandmate.
“I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly,” Malik wrote.
“I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever, there is no words that justify how I feel right now other than beyond devestated.
“I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are peace and you know how loved you are.”
Each member of One Direction — Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Harry Styles — as well as the band itself have issued a statement regarding Payne’s death which was then followed by an official statement from his family.
“We are heartbroken,” Payne’s family began.
“Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.
“We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time.”
Investigations into Payne’s death are ongoing. However, per 9News, Argentine authorites claim that “suspicious elements and drugs” could possible be involved in the singer’s death.
