Zaka Ashraf named PCB management committee chairman

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to witness a change in leadership as the government appoints a fresh 10-member management committee led by Zaka Ashraf for a duration of four months. The committee's inaugural meeting is scheduled to take place in Lahore on Thursday.

Ashraf, who was the frontrunner for the PCB chairman position, had to wait as the election was postponed due to legal challenges faced by the board of governors responsible for electing the new chairman.

As part of the restructuring, Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, the PCB election commissioner, has been replaced by supreme court advocate Mahmood Iqbal Khakwani.

The PCB chairman's election was initially deferred on June 26 following the acceptance of a petition by Gul Mohammad Kakar, a former member of the PCB management committee, by the Baluchistan High Court. The court has set a hearing date for July 17.

Prior to his withdrawal from the election, former chairman Najam Sethi assembled a 10-member board of governors, which included two direct nominees from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who serves as the PCB patron.

Acting chairman Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana made changes to the board of governors, prompting the legal challenge from Kakar.

This revamp has seen representatives from major cities like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Peshawar being replaced by individuals from smaller cities such as Dera Murad Jamali, Hyderabad, Larkana and Bahawalpur.
