Zak Hardaker will have no problems winning back over the Leeds Rhinos supporters following his return to Headingley, according to former team-mate Brett Delaney. Hardaker has sealed a short-term deal with the Rhinos until the end of the season following his abrupt departure from Wigan Warriors last week.
The 30-year-old full-back enjoyed plenty of glorious moments in the blue and amber jersey, winning a League Leaders’ Shield, three Super League titles, two Challenges Cups and a World Club Challenge. When Brian McDermott’s men achieved the treble in 2015, Hardaker was crowned the Steve Prescott Man of Steel.
Popular ex-Rhinos forward Delaney told Leeds Live: “Zak going back to Leeds is a great story and he was fantastic when I was there. “He’s an unbelievable talent and had a lot of success at Headingley, so it was unfortunate to see him go.

“But it’s come full circle now and I think he will be a good addition to the squad. The Leeds fans are the best in the world and they will welcome Zak back.
“He did a lot for the club during his time there and that won’t be forgotten, so I don’t think he have will any problems fitting back in. Leeds are struggling at full-back right now with Richie Myler and Jack Walker out injured, so Zak coming in should help them win some games.
“He has got raw ability and talent and I always remember that 2015 season when Zak was Man of Steel. We obviously won the treble that year and I thought Zak won us a few games for us on his own with moments of individual brilliance.”
Delaney remembers Hardaker arriving from Featherstone Rovers before getting his chance in Leeds’ first-team.
“I recall the 2011 Grand Final against St Helens when Zak scored a try at the end,” added the 36-year-old Aussie. "He was quite a tall, skinny lad but he was very strong and he kept his spot in the team.
“Leeds took on a chance on signing him from Fev but he was soon playing in a Grand Final and never really looked back. Full credit to him because he proved that hard work pays off. Where would I put Zak of all the players I’ve played with? He’s right up there. I believe he still has plenty of years still left in him too. For me, full-back is his best position and I just hope he helps Leeds get a few wins.”
