The Scrubs Reboot Trailer Has Just Dropped & Sacred Heart Looks A Little Different

Clear your schedules: the original Scrubs gang (yes, JD, Turk, and Elliot) are officially returning for the reboot, with even more fan favourites rumoured to be on the way.

ABC has gone all-in and officially ordered the Scrubs reboot straight-to-series for the 2025-2026 season, skipping the usual pilot process — so this is really happening!!

Back in December 2024, a reboot of the beloved sitcom Scrubs was confirmed to be in the works at ABC in the US with its original creator, Bill Lawrence, at the helm. At the time, no one knew whether it would be a reboot with a whole new cast (like the disastrous attempt in season nine of the original series) or whether the initial cast would be returning.

Now, not only is Zach Braff (JD) confirmed, but Donald Faison (Turk), Sarah Chalke (Elliot), John C. McGinley (Cox) and Judy Reyesare (Carla) officially joining him. Variety reports that even more OG cast members are expected to return, though their names are still under wraps.

“I wanted Zach to be in this because he’s been directing mostly lately, and I think people forget he’s a really, really good actor,” Lawrence told Deadline in October 2024.

“And for a while, it just tickled me for him to be playing a doctor again. I’m like, what is J.D.’s life — that’s straight from the book — what if J.D.’s life had taken a bad turn.”

Over the years, Zach Braff has been pretty upfront about his desire to bring back the show and be involved.

During the pandemic, he launched a podcast called Fake Doctors, Real Friends with his friend and co-star Faison, in which they rewatched the show and gave fans behind-the-scenes info. With fellow cast members appearing as guests on the show, they often chat about how keen they’d be to bring the show back.

In an interview with Michael Rosenbaum on his Inside of You podcast, Braff spoke about how much he missed the on-set environment of Scrubs.

“I miss laughing every day. Belly laughing every day was –— that was the job. And when that goes away, by the time nine years were over, we were sort of all exhausted by it,” Braff reflected.

“When we signed up to do our show, they can put you under a pretty insane contract of, like, seven years and stuff, which I wouldn’t do again but some sort of a limited thing? You’re basically saying, ‘Do you wanna go get the gang back together and fucking laugh your ass off with some of your best friends and be paid well?’ Yeah, that sounds amazing.”

What will the plot be for the Scrubs reboot?

The official logline is out, and it’s a nostalgia hit: “JD (Braff) & Turk (Faison) scrub in together for the first time in a long time — medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time. Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way,” per Variety.

Lawrence — who has since been at the helm of A+ television shows including Shrinking and Bad Monkey — told Deadline that his vision for Scrubs 2.0 is a mixture between a revival and a reboot, with old characters mixing old characters with brand new ones.

“We’ve been talking about a lot, and I think the only real reason to do it is a combo,” Lawrence said.

“A: people wanting to see what the world of medicine was like for the people they love, which is part of any successful reboot. But B: I think that show always worked because you get to see young people dropped into the world of medicine, knowing young people who go there are super idealistic and are doing it because it’s a calling.

“There’s no cliché ‘rich doctors playing golf’ — that’s not what it is anymore. So I think that, no matter what it is, it would be a giant mistake not to do as a combo of those two things.”

Who is in the cast of the Scrubs reboot?

Along with Braff, Faison, McGinley, Reyesare and Chalke, the show’s Lawrence is back as executive producer. Scrubs alums Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra will serve as executive producers and showrunners, with Braff, Faison, and Chalke also executive producing in addition to starring.

Is there a trailer for the Scrubs reboot?

There sure is and can we talk about how literally none of them have aged!

When is the Scrubs reboot release date?

The new Scrubs is set to air on ABC on February 25 (local time), joining Abbott Elementary and Shifting Gears as one of the few comedies on the network’s schedule. Hopefully this means we’ll be getting the new show on our Aussie screens very soon, most likely on Disney+!

Although we didn’t necessarily need a Scrubs reboot, it feels like a welcome little treat.

EAAAAAGGGGLLLLLEEEEEE!!!!!!

If you’ve got a hankering to watch the OG Scrubs, you can re-watch all seasons on Stan.
