The Cincinnati Bengals sound like a team that won’t have starting right guard Alex Cappa for at least one week.
Speaking with reporters on the Monday after the Week 18 win over the Baltimore Ravens, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said it would be tough for Cappa to make it back for Sunday night’s wild-card playoff game against the Ravens, per Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com.
It’s unclear whether Cappa will miss the entire postseason because of the ankle injury suffered in the regular-season finale. While he’s out, veteran Max Scharping will take over next to fellow backup-turned-starter Hakeem Adeniji. Right tackle La’el Collins is out for the season.
Hobson noted this in an article before Taylor met with the media:
Cappa had his ankle rolled in the pocket late in the third quarter and the talk around his locker was he was out for the rest of the playoffs. But when he rolled by on a scooter, he was asked how he was doing and he smiled said, “Great. We just won the division.”
We’ll update once testing happens and the team provides more info. For now, though, the Bengals lose their best lineman and will start two backups on the right side during the playoffs.
